Lifting bodies were wingless aircraft designed by a small group of NASA engineers and pilots from the 1950s onwards, with the intention of creating reusable spacecraft. Their research was central to the creation of the space shuttle. Milton O Thompson flew 23 different types of aircraft as a research pilot from 1956 – 1965, and subsequently held various management positions in NASA. This memoir describes the endeavours of a small group of pilots and researchers to prove a seemingly impossible concept. This book is “as new”. It has been opened and read but shows no signs of wear or damage.
